About the event
By one estimate, there are 183 international scholarship programs for outward student mobility around the world, with 52 per cent of world nations have at least one such programme (Perna et al., 2014). The rationales for funding such programmes vary across nations so do the post-study obligations for the scholarship recipients.
In the first part of the webinar, Dr Anne Campbell will discuss six main rationales for funding international scholarships, including international development, access for marginalized students, and bilateral diplomacy. These motivations are often mixed and blended; this talk will highlight the importance of untangling these rationales for improved practice and outcomes in higher education and beyond.
In the second part, Mr Tugay Durak will share how international scholarships pave the way for overseas education for disadvantaged students and career prospects of such sponsored students by presenting evidence from his case study research on Turkish and Chilean state-scholarships.
