Finnish and Russian universities have developed internationalisation activities including double degrees using such benefits as a common border, membership in the Bologna Process and support by the governments of both countries. Previous research concentrated on general issues of Finnish-Russian internationalisation of higher education at the policy and university level.

However, the role of responsibilities in double degree partnerships and their division has not been investigated yet. To fill this gap, this Open Space aims to discuss how division of responsibilities in Finnish-Russian double degrees increase transaction costs of their implementation at institutional level, thus, to become the challenge for internationalisation of partner universities. The Open Space is based on the interviews of academics and administrators in Finnish and Russian universities conducted by the research team of EDUneighbours project established in 2017.
