Individualisation as a Chance for Disabled Students in Continuing Higher Education?

​The opening up of higher education is a major challenge for universities as the heterogeneity of students increases. Continuing higher education has to reach different target groups and to enable participation on study programmes including people who are „impaired“ in their studying for different reasons (Zorn, 2018). So far people with disabilities have received little or no consideration with regard to continuing higher education in Germany (Kamm & Wolter, 2015). Thus, HEIs are not yet fulfilling their social responsibility to integrate these target groups. Continuing Higher Education is challenged to consider the individual requirements of this target group when designing study programmes (Wolter, 2015), so they can ensure that this people have the possibility to study. It will be shown how principles of individualisation and inclusive didactics can be used in the development and designing of study programmes in continuing higher education to accommodate the needs of people with disabilities. Therefore this concept and its possibilities of realisation will be discussed.
