Increased student mobility has probably been the most significant development observed in the higher education landscape. Frequently omitted from migration studies and located in the paradigm of benefits-creator, this phenomena still leaves plenty of space for questions of inequality. However Marginson states that higher education itself cannot make people more equal.  This is in opposition to the belief that education – primary, secondary and tertiary – is perhaps the most critical means for improving the quality of life and reducing inequalities. From the perspective of an idealist rationale, internationalization in higher education aims to generate a more democratic, fair and equal world with regard to international cooperation. These contradictions create an interesting space for debate and have motivated me to adopt a broader perspective on student mobility.
