Whilst “impact” as a concept and its application has been in general use for decades, it is just blossoming in the Higher Education (HE) sector. However, as increasingly society and governments wish to understand what difference is being made by the investment in research, teaching or operations, showcasing impact has grown substantially. It offers an opportunity to exhibit the wonderful work being delivered from universities in our communities.
However, the challenge here is that impact can be very diverse and nuanced which is why Times Higher Education (THE) was looking to consider if and how the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) could be utilized to set the context and develop an Impact Rankings.
The presentation will show how THE has built this ranking: Going from SDG to a metric and how the methodology incorporates weightings, evidence and bibliometrics. It will provide the audience with submission insights, results and further work planned.
